Samsung Display’s foldable organic light emitting diode (OLED) panel for the Galaxy Z Flip smartphone has received the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification in South Korea.
EDP is given by Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KETI), a sub-agency under the Ministry of Enviroment, for products that are considered eco-friendly from raw material extraction to disposal.
Samsung’s OLED panel received EPD for all seven requirements.
Its OLED panel for the Galaxy S8 received approval for four requirements back in 2018.
Samsung Display swapped its air conditioning boiler recently to a more efficient machine to reduce dust and nitrogen oxide, it said.
The company also put in equipment to recycle used water.
In total, Samsung Display reduced carbon emission by 2,300 tonnes per year thanks to these changes, it said.
Last month, Samsung Display also received the Platinum certificate from Underwriters Laboratories for zero waste at its Asan campus.
