Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday that it has developed a new DRAM based on the Compute Express Link (CXL) interface.

The DDR5 module has been verified on Intel’s platform. Samsung said it will collaborate on the launch of the chip with other data center and cloud companies.

CXL interface allows CPUs to be used efficiently with other devices such as accelerators, memory and input/output devices.

Samsung applied the EDSFF form factor on the latest module. The CXL-based DRAM can be used together with the main DRAM of the system and scale memory capacity to terabyte levels.

The South Korean tech giant also applied its latest controller on the module and other software technologies. This allows the module to perform memory mapping, interface converting and error management.

Samsung has been a member of CXL Consortium since the beginning when it was founded in 2019.

Member companies have been working to develop the CXL interface since then.
