Qualcomm is launching its new fifth-generation robotics platform with 5G connectivity, the US chip giant announced Thursday.
The RB5 platform is optimized for robotics and can be applied to drones. It comes with a wide-range of hardware, software and developer kit.
It will allow developers and manufacturers to design low-power robots and drones for military and industrial use in artificial intelligence and 5G networks, Qualcomm said.
The US chip giant said around twenty companies were already considering using the platform.
Qualcomm QRB5165 processor, which is part of the platform, integrates Octa Core Qualcomm Kryo 585CPU, Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU, multiple DSPs (compute, audio, and sensor) and ISPs.
The platform also offers the 5th generation Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine for on-device machine learning. The engine boasts 15 TOPS.
RB5 platform also comes with Qualcomm Spectra 480 Image Signal Processor (SIP) which can process 2 gigapixel per second.
It comes with a hexagon tensor accelerator and a secure processing unit to prevent malware. It supports Bluetooth 5.1, 4G LTE and 5G connectivity.
