LG CNS has formed a task force dedicated to application modernization, TheElec confirmed on Friday.
The task force is consists of 450 employees who will oversee application modernization business, technology and execution.
Application modernization is the process of modernizing existing legacy applications. It updates their platform infrastructure, internal architecture and features, as opposed to completely redesigning them wholesale.
Most companies have completely changed their IT system every ten years or so in the name of next-generation business.
With application modernization, IT systems can subdivided into hundreds of services that can be changed individually. This will allow companies to keep their IT systems up-to-date while remaining flexible in their operations.
LG CNS has already been applying application modernization in its migration to the cloud. Rather than completely transfer its existing system to cloud completely, the company is dividing and reassembling the system to optimize it for the cloud.
The company is applying micro service architecture (MSA) __ or dividing its legacy system into small services __ as well as continuous integration and continuous deployment (CICD), which allows service development and testing to be done simultaneously.
LG CNS is also running an application modernization project for Korea Meteorological Administration’s (KMA) next-generation weather information system dubbed COMIS-5. KMA’s previous system was integrated into one whole. Sine 2018, KMA has been applying micro service architecture to divide its existing system and data to distribute them as a cloud system to its data centers spread across the country. The project is expected to be completed by 2021. KMA is hoping to offer a stable service that can activate even in disasters and accidents.
LG CNS believes application modernization is a must to secure business agility for companies. All businesses today run on digial, IT systems which need to be nimble during contingencies and react faster to customer requests, the company added.
