
Corning has unveiled its new glass dubbed Gorilla Glass Victus that will be applied first to a Samsung smartphone.
The company said it can handle drops of 2 meters without damage.
Victus also has double the scratch resistance to its predecessor Gorilla Glass 6.
Competing glasses can handle drops of up to 0.8 meters and has just the quarter of scratch resistance, Corning said.
The company said consumers in the three major countries for smartphones __ China, India and the US __ put durability right behind brand when the consider purchasing smartphones.
Its own survey of around 90,000 consumers also showed that they considered durability doubly important to screen sizes, camera quality or device thickness.
Gorilla Glass has been applied to 45 brands and over 8 billion devices, the company added.
