
LG Uplus will triple the amount of smartphone it sells through direct online channels in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the company said on Thursday.
The carrier launched a shopping broadcast on its U+ Shop online mall, it said. LG Uplus launch its own affiliate marketing for the mall as well as offer reward program for used phone and quick delivery, it added.
Smartphones sold through the mall only accounted for 5% of its total sales as of now, LG Uplus said. Including handsets sold in other online channel it was 10% but the company plans to increase this to over 30%.
According to CounterPoint Research, 20% of all smartphones globally were sold online. India has the most online sales at 41%. For the UK and Germany its was 34% and 33%, respectively. In South Korea online sales only accounted for 13%.
The research firm said online handset sales will increase by 3% this year to reach 23% in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Online sales will account for 26% by 2024, CounterPoint said.
