[Semicon Korea 2019 Exhibitor]
Samyoung Pure Chemicals, a fine chemical company, will complete the expansion of its Cheonan 2 plant in February. It is a strategy to preemptively respond to the market with a stable supply system. As a result, the earnings are expected to improve.
In 2018, the sales were estimated at 145 billion won and operating profit at 20.5 billion won. In 2017, the sales rose 44% from 101bn won and operating profit rose 60% from 12.8bn won. The boom in the semiconductor industry from 2017 to 2018 caused the increase in demand for ultra-high-purity chemicals and chemicals, which are essential for the manufacture of electronic components.
The main products are ultra-high purity hydrogen peroxide and wafer level package (WLP) chemical. Ultra high purity hydrogen peroxide is used for cleaning and etching when removing unnecessary parts of wafers in semiconductor devices, wafers, and other electronic devices. The chemical for WLP is Etchant, Stripper, and so on. It is used for etching of the metal layer such as copper and titanium applied to the bump and rewiring layer (RDL) in WLP and peeling of the polymer compound.
Samyoung Pure Chemicals will receive raw hydrogen peroxide from its parent companies, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company (Japan) and Hansol Chemical (Korea), then refining it and delivering it to semiconductor companies. That is why the company determines that it is possible to maintain a stable supply system. The company expects this year's sales to continue to grow on the back of the fab operation of semiconductor companies. The Cheonan 2 plant is scheduled to be completed in February.
Samyoung Pure Chemicals is headquartered in Cheonan. There are 84 employees. The main products are ultra-high purity hydrogen peroxide, metallurgy for WLP, printed circuit board (PCB) chemical polishing solution, and other semiconductor and electronic grade functional chemicals.
