Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) sad on Thursday that it has developed a transparent window-shaped solar battery.
Luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) technology has been applied to the battery, KETI said.
LSC are transparent plates with nanometer-sized phosphors in them. Some sun light are passed through it while some are condensed that can be used.
Using them were more efficient compared to building-integrated photovoltaics that are hard to install and takes up more space in windows.
LG Chem, Youngdong Techwin, Kyonggi University, Hongik University and Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center also took part in the development of the technology, KETI said.
The institute said it hoped the technology could be applied to buildings and rooftops of cars.
