EcoPro has signed green gas reduction contracts with seven Chinese nitric acid companies.
The South Korean battery maker will help these companies reduce their nitrous oxide emissions.
The contract is waiting for approval from Chinese authorities.
EcoPro will install equipment starting in July next year and monitor its customers’ green gas emission for a year.
This will allow the companies to deduce their green gas emission by a million metric tonnes a year starting in 2023, the Korean firm said.
Nitrous oxide is considered to have 300 times higher global warming potential to compared to carbon dioxide. Nitric acid production will lead to their emission.
EcoPro said it has gone through two years of market research and negotiations in China before starting its clean development mechanism (CDM) business.
It plans to add six more companies in China as clients next year. It will expand the business to other developing countries at a later date.
