Lightron has supplied its optical transceivers for South Korean telco KT’s 5G telecom equipment, TheElec has learned.
Lightron was initially omitted from KT’s selection of transceiver suppliers earlier this year.
The telco had chosen OE Solution, Intec E&C and Zaram Technology __ however, OE Solution was in effect the exclusive supplier.
Lightron was omitted due to its current managerial rights dispute. Its shares have halted trading on KOSDAQ due to the issue.
But the company passed KT’s review couple of months ago and has been providing its transceivers to Samsung Electronics and Ericsson, which attaches them to its kit and supplies the finished goods to the telco.
More and more South Korean telcos are deciding the transceiver company and the unit price of the transceivers for their telecom equipment suppliers to use.
SK Telecom buys the transceivers themselves directly instead of going through telecom equipment makers such as Samsung and Ericsson.
SK Telecom had used OE Solution and Opticore for its transceiver supplies.
If SK Telecom chooses Lightron, it will clearly help the transceiver maker recover from its current growth decline.
Lightron is expected to post sales of 20 billion won. Last year, the company posted 112.8 billion won in sales.
