ISC will produce its own 5G antenna film materials.
The company’s flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL) was nominated for funding funding by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the company said on Tuesday.
ISC will receive around 2 billion won in funding in the next two years.
ISC will use a direct plating method will form thin film and patterning from a film material with low permittivity and low dielectric loss.
The films are than used to make 5G antenna. ISC said it can produce metal films smaller than 5 micrometers.
The technology can be used for plastic and bio sensor production as well, ISC said.
FCCL can respond to micro patterns of flexible printed circuit boards. The area is currently dominated by Japan.
ISC said its 5G antenna film material business will also boost its 5G semiconductor test socket operation.
According to the Korea Electronics Packaging and Circuits Association (KPCA), the global FCCL market was worth 3 trillion won in 2017. South Korea’s market was worth 395 billion won and has been growing 12% per year since then.
