LG Display said on Tuesday that it will form a new position of chief safety and environment officer (CSEO) to strengthen its safety policies.
The CSEO will have authority level to that of a CEO on safety matters, the company said. The officer will be able to order production and facilities to be suspended if necessary, it said.
The move comes faster after a gas leak in January at its factory in Paju that injured several people.
LG Display said it will work with third-party specialists, suppliers and its own employees to look for risk factors in its facilities going forward.
The process will be done without any time or financial constraints for the company to come up with come up with policies to manage these risk factors.
LG Display will also internalize some of the dangerous workloads it has given to suppliers before.
The display maker said it will also recruit safety specialists with help from outside experts.
The company will report on the progression of these plans sometime in the second half of 2021, it added.
