US automobile giant General Motors will expand its global spending up to 2025 on electric vehicles to US$35 billion, according to Reuters.

The company is also planning unveil 30 new models of electric vehicle by 2025, the report said.

Rival Ford has said it plans to expand spending into electric vehicles up to 2030 by US$30 just weeks earlier.

Previously, General Motors had said it plans to build two new battery factories in the US.

The company is building two factories already through Ultium Cells, its joint venture with LG Energy Solution.

The 35GWh capacity first factory is being built in Lordstown, Ohio. The second factory will be built in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

In May, the US Senate passed a law increasing tax reduction of electric cars from US$7,500 to US$12,500. The law includes a 30% tax reduction for building of advanced energy facilities.
