Firm aiming for up to 7 million shipment
Samsung unveiled its new foldable smartphones on Wednesday with far more competitive prices than previously.
The South Korean conglomerated introduced the new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip phones at its virtual Unpacked event.
Galaxy Z Fold 3, which opens and closes like a book, has a 7.6-inch main screen and 6.2-inch outer screen.
For the first time in the series, the phone also supports S Pen stylus and comes with an under display camera on its main screen.
Galaxy Z Flip 3, which opens and closes like a clamshell, has a 6.7-inch inner screen and 1.9-inch outer screen.
Fold 3 will cost 1.99 million won in South Korea for the 256GB model, around 400,000 won cheaper than its predecessor.
The 512GB model however costs 2.09 million won.
Flip 3 also has a lowered price tag at 1.25 million won, also 400,000 won less than its predecessor. It only comes in 256GB.
The S Pen for Fold 3 is sold separately. It comes with a pro tip that lessens the stress on the screen and a spring inside. S Pen Fold Edition costs 55,000 won and the Pro version, which supports Bluetooth and air gesture control, costs 121,000 won.
Fold 3 comes with 12MP triple cameras on its rear and a 10MP outer camera. The front camera under the screen has 4MP resolution. The front camera is shown only when it is used to take a photo.
Galaxy Z Fold 3 weighs 271gram, only 11gram lighter than Galaxy Z Fold 2. Galaxy Z Flip 3 weighs 183gram.
Flip 3’s outer screen at 1.9-inch in size is four times larger than those on its predecessor. It can display up to eight lines of messages. It sports a dual 12MP cameras and a 10MP front camera. Samsung Pay can be used even while the phone is closed shut.
Both phones have main screens that support 120Hz refresh rate. They are both IPX8 water resistant __ they can handle dips in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
Samsung also unveiled its new Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2 with the phones.
The firm is aiming to ship between 6 million to 7 million of the foldable phones within the year, sources has previously told TheElec.
