Samsung Display said on Monday that the folding OLED panel it supplied for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 consumes 25% less power than its predecessor.
The South Korean display panel maker said it applied a new layer structure that puts the polarizer within the panel.
This means the panel can deflect outer light without attaching a separate polarized on the surface.
This increased light transmittance of the panel by 33% and lowered power consumption by 25%, Samsung Display said.
Previous iterations had the polarizer on the outer surface that sometimes lowered brightness of the panels by 50%, the company said.
Samsung Display is calling the new OLED structure Eco² OLED, which has been registered as a trademark in seven countries including South Korea, the US, the UK, China and Japan.
The technology also contributed to the under display camera technology on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 thanks to increased light transmittance, Samsung Display added.
