Galaxy S21 unlikely to reach 30 million units
Samsung has finalized the specs on the Galaxy S22 series launching in January next year, TheElec has learned.
The high-end model, Galaxy S22 Ultra, like its predecessor will sport a 108MP camera and offer S Pen support.
The company will go into component and material production for the Galaxy S22 series in November.
The code name for the entire Galaxy S22 series is Rainbow and there will be three phones. The Ultra, Plus and Standard models are each codenamed Rainbow B Zero (B0), Rainbow G Zero (G0) and Rainbow R Zero (R0).
The size and specs of these models will remain mostly unchanged from the Galaxy S21 series.
However, to save cost, the three models will share more of the same components than before.
Galaxy S22 Ultra will have a 108MP wide camera and a12MP ultra wide camera __ both cameras will optical image stabilization (OIS). It will have a quad camera on its back. There will be no 3D time of flight module. The model’s front camera will be 40MP like its predecessor.
Galaxy S22 Standard and Galaxy S22 Plus share the same camera specs. Both models will have a 3x optical zoom camera on their back; their front camera will be 10MP.
Samsung will launch the phones in January, the same time as it did for the Galaxy S21 series.
It remains to be seen how much Galaxy S22 Samsung will ship. The company’s Galaxy S21 series is expected to ship less than 30 million units this year.
Samsung is betting on Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy A52 5G models to carry it through the remainder of 2021.
It is aiming to ship early-10 million units for the Galaxy S21 FE. It has also set an aggressive shipment target for Galaxy A52 5G.
