South Korean motor company PTG is aiming to commercialize its in-wheel motor in 2025, the company said.
The company was currently a part of a national project, which started in 2019, to develop a high-performance in-wheel motor, which will start next year, a PTG spokesperson said.
In-wheel motor is an electric motor installed directly on the wheel.
Individual motors on the wheels power the movement instead of having one motor connected to a powertrain as they do now for most vehicles.
PTG said in-wheel motor will increase electricity efficiency, output and handling performance.
The firm is aiming to secure 60 billion won in sales from the business starting in 2024.
It first developed a 20kg in-wheel motor in 2015 and another 75kg version in 2017.
The spokesperson said the company previously discussed collaborating in developing an in-wheel motor with Audi.
