Equipment maker Yunsung F&C said on Thursday that it has been selected to be part of a national project to develop a battery dry electrode process.
The company will develop the mixer and film manufacturing kit needed for the process.
Hanwha Corporation, which also supplies battery production equipment, and other national research institutes and universities will also take part in the project.
In current commercial electrode processes, mostly wet method is used.
Materials are mixed into a slurry before being coated on the electrode plates.
This process requires drying of the plates afterward which consumers large amounts of power.
Yunsung F&C the success of the project means it will have a competing technology in the area to Tesla. The US company is also planning to apply a dry etching process for its battery production.
