Pre-owned fab equipment seller Surplus Global is planning to enter the fab equipment component distribution business.
The company said it was building a platform that distributes, repairs and offers quality assurance for legacy components, people familiar with the matter said.
Surplus Global plans to buy these parts from component makers and sell them on its own online market.
The company will also be working with its subsidiary EQ Global for a parts repair business.
EQ Global can currently offer repairs for fab equipment related to RF and testing.
It is also planning to manufacture discontinued components such as motors and pad conditioners.
Surplus Global said it is entering the parts distribution sector from the current high demand for fab equipment and supply chain issues globally, which has caused lead times for the equipment to be extended.
Fab equipment for 200mm wafers was especially being affected by the high demand.
