Samsung will gain procure protective films used in its foldable smartphones from South Korean component maker Segyung Hitech for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 phones, TheElec has learned.
Segyung Hitech had been the supplier of the films, used to protect the screens on the phones, since 2019 when Samsung launched its first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold.
The protective film is attached on top of the ultra-thin glasses which cover the screen.
It protects these glasses from external shock and prevents fingerprint smudges.
Segyung Hitech is also the exclusive supplier of these films to Samsung Display for the foldable panels it ships to Chinese smartphone makers.
Samsung is aiming to ship 15 million units of Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 this year, double that of their predecessors last year.
Segyung Hitech recorded 115 billion won in revenue from its optical film business last year, accounting for 43% of its total annual revenue.
The business accounted for 41% of its total annual revenue in 2020 and 21% in 2019.
Segyung Hitech also supplies films that cover the front and back of conventional smartphones to Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi and Realme.
