LG Display has unveiled a prototype stretchable display that can stretch by 20%.
The company said on Tuesday that the display, which can be extended, folded, and twisted, can expand in size from 12-inch to 14-inch.
The stretchable display is also full color, meaning it has red, green, and blue pixels, with a resolution of 100 pixels per inch.
It also uses 40-micrometer LEDs as its light source to protect the resolution from being affected by external forces.
LG Display explained that it made the film substrate for the display using silicon traditionally used in contact lenses. The material is flexible and elastic.
The circuits inside are also S-shape springs instead of straight lines, the company added.
The display is aimed at application in things with uneven surfaces such as wearable devices and clothes.
The development of the display will conclude in 2024.
