LG Innotek said on Thursday that it will show off its high-magnification optical consecutive zoom camera module, more commonly known as folded zoom camera, at CES next year.
The module uses a prism to bend the light that the sensor absorbs. This allows the module to become thinner __ avoiding the camera from protruding too much from the smartphone.
Samsung first applied the technology to the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020. Apple is expected to do the same next year.
LG Innotek had previously provided its folded zoom module to Sony for their smartphone.
The module to be unveiled at CES is likely an upgraded version.
LG Innotek said the module can offer 4 to 9 times optical zoom and it has developed actuators and optical image stabilization technologies for this.
The module will be promoted with Qualcomm at CES. The module is being tested with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
