Samsung Display has strengthened its existing teams that work on future displays in its year’s end reshuffle, insiders told TheElec.
The A Business Team, which handles demand from Cupertino, had its foldable capacity strengthened, the sources said.
Specifically, the team will now also develop foldable products and panels, they said.
The iPhone maker is Samsung Display’s most important customer for OLED panels. Samsung Display is also the exclusive foldable OLED panel supplier to its parent company Samsung Electronics.
However, Apple has yet to launch its own foldable smartphones. It is also unclear whether it ever will.
Meanwhile, Samsung Display also reorganized staff between its small display business, the parent business to the A Business Team, and its IT team.
The South Korean company reorganized its microdisplay team to be under the supervision of the CEO than its research division.
This means the company wants microdisplays such as XR and other new applications to be commercially viable.
Samsung Display and compatriot LG Display are also developing foldable 20-inch panels aimed at Apple.
