Samsung SDI’s major battery production equipment supplier Hana Technology has won France’s Verkor as a new customer, TheElec has learned.
It is the second French company that the South Korean equipment maker has won, after Automotive Cell Company.
Verkor is a battery joint venture between carmaker Stellantis and Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, and has Renault and Schneider Electric as its financial backers.
Hana Technology supplied equipment used in the stacking process in battery production, sources said.
The process involves stacking battery material such as cathode, anode, and separator. Sources said the deal is worth over 20 billion won.
The move is also a win for Hana Technology in that it previously supplied mostly other equipment besides stacking equipment to its customers such as automation equipment and electrolyte injectors.
The equipment maker also needed the deal as one of its prospective customers, Britishvolt, is facing insolvency issues.
Hana Technology recorded 119.9 billion won in revenue and an operating loss of 6.3 billion won last year, turning red year-on-year.
