South Korean chip assembly and test firm LB Semicon is aiming to reduce its reliance on display driver IC (DDI) for growth.

LB Semicon vice president Kim Jeong-kyu told TheElec that last year was a time of reflection on what business areas it has invested in to plan where it wants to invest in the future.

Kim said the company was conducting promotions for its services to domestic and foreign companies and expected a turnaround in the second quarter.

These promotions are for CMOS image sensor (CIS) and system-on-a-chip (SoC), business areas that it newly started in 2022.

Currently, LB Semicon’s main revenue source is DDI, which accounts for over 70% of its revenue.

According to LB Semicon, the company has been spending heavily on equipment for other chips besides DDI for new growth. It had 50 test equipment for power management IC, 30 units for SoC, and 50 units for CIS to offer these services to customers.

LB Semicon was also seeking to secure ISO/IEC 15408 certification by the fourth quarter of this year, which will allow the company to handle flagship products of customers. It already has ISO 27001 required for automobile chips.
