DB Hitek is planning to contract produce silicon capacitors for a customer starting late in the year, TheElec has learned.
Silicon capacitors are made using semiconductor processes unlike multi-layer chip capacitors.
They can maintain a stable voltage and have an advantage in removing high frequency noises.
Silicon capacitors are mainly used in AI accelerators, application processors, and other high performance chips. Murata, Vishay, and Skyworks are strong players in the silicon capacitors field.
DB Hitek is planning to use its existing 8-inch foundry line to manufacture the capacitors.
The move is expected to recover the company’s operation rate for its facilities.
DB Hitek previously said it expects to reach an operation rate of 80% by the end of the year and 95% in late 2025 thanks to the introduction of new foundry services.
