From low demand for PCs
Contract prices of DRAM and NAND dipped in September from low demand for PCs and consumer electronics.
DDR4 8Gb 1Gx8 saw a month-on-month price drop of 17.07% to US$1.7 in September, according to analyst firm DRAMeXchange.
DRAM prices were on a steady climb since October last year but dropped for the first time in August by 2.38%.
Those for 128Gb 16Gx8 MLC also dropped 11.44% over the same time period.
DRAMeXchange’s parent company TrendForce noted that PC makers still had a high level of inventory, which means demand for PCs has not recovered.
PC shipment increased 4.4% in the third quarter which was lower than its estimate.
However, those in inventory were mostly DDR4 products and not the newer DDR5.
