South Korea's LG Electronics said on Nov. 5 that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Chinese TV maker Hisense at a court in California, US.
“We decided to go ahead with the lawsuit after Hisense ignored both our warnings and requests to stop the violation and come to the table,” said an LG Electronics representative.
The patents that the LG unit claims to have been infringed upon include technology for conveying the LED light source from the TV to the LCD panel, the user interface, and technology for improving the WiFi data transmission speed.
Meanwhile, Hisense was the fourth best-selling TV maker in the global markets in the first half of this year, according to market research firm IHS Markit. At first place was Samsung Electronics with 19.1%, followed by LG Electronics with 12.6% and TCL with 10.1%. Hisense had a share of 7.2% after selling 7.19 million units. Hisense has been expanding in the US markets as well after taking up a sizeable share in China.
