Korea’s largest maker of display manufacturing equipment SFA has made great strides in China’s lamination market, including bagging an order for cover glass lamination-making equipment from China’s largest display maker BOE.
Industry sources said on Feb. 19 that SFA signed a KRW 129.1 billion deal with BOE in August 2019. SFA is now setting up the equipment at BOE’s second Gen-6 flexible OLED line in Sichuan.
has attained similar orders from other firms, such as Tianma and Visionox. From Tianma, SFA signed a deal worth KRW 61.7 billion, while the deal with Visionox was worth KRW 109.8 billion.
“SFA seems to have succeeded in targeting the Chinese lamination equipment market,” said one source close to the matter.
He added that SFA would eventually be able to supply curved cover glass lamination equipment as well, especially since BOE requested specs enabling curved flexible panels when purchasing the SFA equipment.
SFA has previously provided lamination equipment for flat cover glass for Samsung Display. For curved lamination equipment, the Samsung affiliate had relied on TOPTEC and AP System. On Feb. 18, TOPTEC said in a regulatory filing that it has signed a deal to supply KRW 13.9 billion worth of equipment to Visionox.
