UniTest, a semiconductor testing equipment company, has received orders from a US company for its first NAND flash memory test equipment. It is among the world's top five NAND producers.
An official of the company said, "We plan to increase the sales volume starting from this initial volume."
UniTest sells inspection equipment that screens for the final package and product defects for semiconductor single product and module products. It developed the post-process main test equipment for the first time in Korea. The main focus of the company was DRAM, however, recently it has been expanding into NAND flash and solid state drive (SSD) inspection equipment market, and it is growing every year. This year, it expects the largest sales since its inception.
The first deal with an American company has several implications. First, it adds customer diversification. The US company that traded with UniTest this time has a high market share in DRAM and NAND flash. It has been reported that UniTest has spent many years trying to make the deal.
Second, NAND flash testing equipment sales are expected to grow. An official of the company said, "Although sales have been mainly driven by DRAM inspection equipment, sales of NAND flash equipment have been steadily increasing" and added, “It is also expected that demand for SSD inspection equipment will increase greatly."
UniTest said it plans to increase the capacity of its equipment by two to three times, expanding its product lineup and diversifying its customers to meet the demand.
