UBI Research forecasts USD 1.9b

In 2020, the global OLED light-emitting materials market is forecast to jump 41.8% on-year to be worth USD 1.9 billion, according to market research firm UBI Research on Mar. 20.

This is as related companies begin to consume bigger amounts of the material to roll out products. By material, about 16.9 tons of HITL material is expected to be consumed this year, followed by 4.15 tons of blue host materials.

In 2021, the consumption of blue host and dopant chemicals are expected to further go up as Samsung Display begins to use them in their QD OLED panels.

In 2019, the light-emitting market had been valued at around USD 1.34 billion after growing 39.2% on-year from the previous year’s USD 937 million. The growth last year was thanks to the increase in smartphone OLED panels. That year, the shipments of these panels rose 16.5% on-year to 474 million units. Further, Chinese panel makers also revved up their Gen-6 flexible OLED facilities.

By manufacturer, UDC led with sales of USD233 million that accounted for 17.9% of the total market. It was followed by Samsung SDI, which recorded 212 million to account for 16.2% when including sales from Novaled.
