Samsung Display has put in the equipment necessary to produce Quantum Dot (QD) displays at its factory in South Korea.
The company held a ceremony on Wednesday commemorating putting the equipment in at its plant in Asan.
Last year in October, Samsung Display announced that it was exiting the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) business within this year. It has since then been removing LCD equipment from the Asan plant and building a cleanroom dedicated to producing QD displays.
Samsung Display is expect to put in the 8.5th generation deposition equipment first, and complete the QD display line within the year. Production will began next year.
The South Korean display maker was wrapping up technology development to increase the completeness and productivity of the touted display, it said.
QD display uses quantum dot materials in making of display panels. Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is already using quantum dot materials for its flagship LCD TVs dubbed QLED TV.
