Samsung Electronics hired 500 experts with doctorate level degrees in semiconductor design and artificial intelligence (AI) in the first half of 2020, the company said on Wednesday.
The South Korean tech giant said it plans to hire 1,000 in total by the end of the year. It will be its highest number of hiring for such talents, Samsung said.
The company announced back in 2018 that it will invest 180 trillion won to foster AI, 5G and semiconductors for auto-components.
In April, 2019, Samsung said it was investing 133 trillion won into its logic chip businesses by 2030. It said it will hire 15,000 employees in the area.
In March this year, the company's semiconducto business began hiring those to work in next-generation memory products, system semiconductor design, smart factory, AI and software.
In January, Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong said the company will focus on creating quality jobs and not just rely on the number of jobs.
