LG Chem and GS Caltex will partner up to create a new electric vehicle (EV) service that uses big data, the companies said.
The pair will also collaborate with Signet EV, Soft Berry, KST Mobility and Green Car to first develop a battery safety inspection service that uses big data collected during charging sessions.
When a EV uses a charging station run by GS for a recharge, the car’s driving and charging data will be saved on the cloud. LG Chem’s big data analytic and algorithm will check the current status and possible danger of the EV’s battery. This result will be sent to the driver and the charging station.
The companies will wrap up the trial for the service by 2021 and launch it in South Korea. Starting in 2022, the firms will collaborate to develop services aimed at oversea markets.
GS currently operates 44 charging stations that has 100kW chargers for EV. This will be expanded to 160 stations by 2022, the companies said.
