SK IE Technology, the material subsidiary of SK Innovation, said on Tuesday that it will use only renewable energy for its facilities in South Korea.
The company won the bid to buy renewable electricity from Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), the country’s electric utility, on Monday. KEPCO offers electricity made from solar, wind and water plants to winning bidders.
SK IE Technology will use the renewable energy for its battery separator factories in Jeongpyeong and Cheongju.
SK IE Technology is following parent company SK Innovation’s ESG (energy, social and governance) initiative.
SK IE Technology said it will seek to apply renewable energy use for its facilities abroad going forward.
In November, the company announced that it would be joining the RE100 (Renewable Energy 100%) campaign. Other SK affiliates have also joined.
