Samsung Display said on Tuesday that it has supplied low-power OLED panels to Chinese smartphone makers Oppo and Oneplus.
The company said it applied its Adaptive Frequency technology __ the name it gives for low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology __ to the panels.
They were used in Oppo Find X3 and Oneplus 9Pro.
As its name suggests, Adaptive Frequency changes the fresh rate of smartphone screens depending on what contents are being watched. For example, games that require fast motion will run at 120Hz, while movies will run at 60Hz and email at 30Hz, and so on.
Oppo said the use of Samsung Display’s panels allowed it to reduce power consumption of the phones by 46%.
The Korean display panel maker said it will supply its low-power OLED panels to more global customers going forward.
