The global semiconductor material market was worth US$55.3 billion in 2020, according to SEMI.
This was a rise of 5% from 2019, the organization said. This year, it will grow 6% to be worth US$58.7 billion, SEMI said.
South Korea, Taiwan and China will lead this growth. South Korea’s semiconductor material market was worth US$9.23 billion last year, but will grow to US$10.53 billion in 2022, the organization said.
While South Korea was third in market size after Taiwan and China, considering how much Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix spend on semiconductor materials at their fabs in China, the influence of South Korean companies on the total semiconductor materials market was the largest, SEMI said.
SEMI will host SMC Korea 2021 from May 12 to 18 in South Korea. The fully online event will live and on-demand sessions, covering topics from extreme ultraviolet (EUV), packaging to foundry. A total of 19 companies in the semiconductor industry will take part.
