LG Energy Solution said on Tuesday that it will recall some of its energy storage system (ESS) batteries.
The South Korean battery maker will voluntarily recall batteries made at its ESS dedicated production line between April 2017 to September 2018.
The recall will cost the company around 400 billion won, it said.
LG Energy Solution said it conducted a review of the cause of the string of ESS fires. It found potential danger from some problems in its process for ESS electrode in China, for batches made in the initial stages.
The danger could be combined with harsh external environment to cause fires, the company said.
LG Energy Solution said it will consult with customers on where the batteries has been used in local and global sites to swap them and conduct necessary safety measures.
ESS sites where the necessary measures had been made will run on regular state of charge.
The company will continue to update control and diagnosis software for the batteries used in these sites and conduct on-site reviews to remove any potential danger, it added.
