Chip giants TSMC and Intel are expected to complete their 2-nanometer (nm) or under fabs within the year, industry association SEMI said.
The Taiwanese chip giant is expected to secure a capacity of 67,500 8-inch wafers per month, while its US counterpart is expected to secure 202,500.
Intel is expected to be the fastest among chip foundries to commercially offer a 2nm chip.
Its PC CPU Arrow Lake is the first to be made with a 2nm node __ the CPU tile of the chiplet is expected to be 2nm. The other tiles are expected to be made by TSMC.
While the Taiwanese chip giant’s capacity is only a third of Intel's for this year, once its main customer Apple applies 2nm to their application processors for iPhones, its capacity is expected to jump.
Meanwhile, SEMI’s projection this year for 2nm didn’t include Samsung. However, the South Korean tech giant said previously that it expected to start 2nm production in 2025.
