Philoptics will take part in the national project to develop production technology for fine metal mask (FMM) used in organic light emitting diode (OLED) panels, the company said Wednesday.
The company will take part in developing 6th to 8th-generation FMM production technology for high-resolution OLED panels.
Philoptics said its long experience in FMM development helped win the project.
Its electroforming method of producing FMM could make the sticks even thinner than the 20 to 30 micrometers achieved though pressing or etching.
Philoptics said this gave its FMM sticks and advantage in patterning of high-resolution panels.
The company said it spent 7 billion won in research and development, mostly to minimize heat distortion.
A Philoptics spokesperson said productivity and cost was vital to compete with market leader DNP of Japan.
