Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on Thursday that it has developed a new multi level ceramic capacitor (MLCC) which is 0402 (0.4mm horizontally, 0.2mm vertically) in size, has 1.0uF capacity, and 6.3V.

MLCC delivers electricity to the core components within devices, making the capacity and voltage their most important specification.

Over a thousand of them are used in smartphones, so they also benefit from being made smaller.

The new 0402 MLCC also has great DC bias characteristics, Samsung said.

MLCC is seeing high demand due to more devices supporting 5G and multi-cameras.

Previous 0402 1.0uF MLCCs were limited to 4V, which made them inapplicable in IT devices due to the shortage in voltage.
