Seoul Semiconductor said on Mar. 12 that a former researcher has been found guilty of leaking LED technology by an Incheon district court and sentenced to a jail term of 8 months and a 2-year probation.
The employee, following his departure from Seoul Semiconductor in December 2014, leaked the technology to one of the company’s business partners.
“The ruling sets the precedent whether an individual or a company, they all are judged by the law when it comes to leaking or stealing industrial technology,” said Seoul Semiconductor in a statement.
Over the past two years, the Korean chipmaker has filed 32 lawsuits in a total of 7 countries including the US, Europe, China and Japan against both individuals and companies for stealing its technology. It has won each and every case.
